Welcome to Social & Healthy Action for Rural Empowerment
Social and Healthy Action for Rural Empowerment (SHARE), the women headed action oriented research base organization, came into being during 1995 with the commitment to an all round development and prosperity of rural people in general and Scheduled Tribes in particular. Having lived amidst nature, the people of Jharkhand are endowed with rich culture, forests and minerals. Ironically, it is also one of the most backward regions of the country. We have set our vision and aspirations of the people of Jharkhand of achieving social equity, prosperity and involvement of the weakest and most backward sections of the society in the developmental process. SHARE has been concerned with the cause of tribal, women, children and underprivileged section of the society. It has been implementing educational, environmental, agricultural, self-employment, social empowerment, health programme, micro finance, watershed development, and agricultural and other awareness generation activities in remote and distant rural areas of East Singbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawaan and Hazaribag districts of Jharkhand. The organization has experienced the agriculture has lower trend of growth rate, through it provides livelihood to the majority of the population. In this scenario, the development of this sector becomes critical for the entire socio-economic developmental process of the State. Generally, farmers yield one crop annually. In some pockets they travel far of places for drinking water especially during summer. All this is because of water scarcity and rainwater being the only source of agriculture. Therefore, we have started conducting awareness generation programme on rainwater harvesting in some pockets of East Singhbhum and Hazaribag districts of Jharkhand. The organization has given top priority to people’s participation in these areas. Formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs), Village Development Committees, Forest Protection Committees, Water and Sanitation User Groups, Youth Clubs, Farmers’ Clubs, Adolescent Girls’ Clubs, has strengthened people’s involvement in development activities. It is also focusing on controlling child labour in these areas. The main concern of the organization is Tribal Development, Women, children, people with Disability, and other backward caste. Our vision for the people of the State is to achieve a healthy, educated, egalitarian and just social order where minimum basic needs of food, shelter, cloth, health, education and drinking water have been taken care of and each individual is able to access all the opportunities for their personal, educational and skill development. The organization has been successful in Hazaribag district by forming 79 SHGs of marginalized women. It is noteworthy to mention that DRDA Hazaribag selected SHARE to send its representative at a 10 day Saras Mela held at Goa during December2006, with products prepared by the SHGs. It was also a matter of proud privilege for the SHGs who participated at a 15 day long Saras Mela organized by the State government at Ranchi, Jharkhand. It was a proud day for SHARE as on 15th November2006 when the works of empowered women was finally recognized and rewarded at a glittering State ceremony hosted by the Hon’ble CM of Jharkhand Sri Madhu Koda. The two groups, namely Geeta and Reena Mahila Mondal, got 2.5 lacs each at the hands of the CM to undertake income-generating activity for their self-reliant. At present the SHGs are involved in various IGA by taking 18.25 lac subsidized revolving fund from DRDA.. The organization has experience of running various IGA to empower rural women by providing competency through enhancement of their skill, knowledge and information on different avenues of self-employment. The conduction of training programmes on cottage industries, tailoring & cutting, ornament making, soft toys making, beautician, pig rearing, fishery etc in collaboration with DRDA, JSS, NYK, District Fishery Dept. have enabled rural women to become self reliant. Altogether 172 women have been trained in tailoring and cutting, 34 in ornament making, 26 in cottage industries and 15 in soft toys making. The women members of SHGs are also fruitfully engaged in bamboo craft, bakery and rice machine. The organization has also formed 66 SHGs in remote areas of Potka block where tribal and primitive tribal communities are getting most of the attention in programs and activities implemented through different agencies. Altogether about 84 watershed structures including, pond, irrigation canal, well,5% LSI models etc have been constructed under holistic development approach. The focus has been on water, forest, land, human resource and livestock development activities. Apart from providing direct income through IGA, the organization has formed Youth Club and Farmers Cub to improve poor economy of the villagers. The organization has conducted training for rural women who are talented but due to lack of required exposure and skill development fail to compete with the persons who have access to these facilities. A three month long training for the 22 selected rural women is being organized in Potka to provide inputs in different section of sports. These women have been selected after one month Talent Hunt programme for the persons belonging to 7 remote villages under Potka block. The organization believes that enhancing ability and frame of mind to be in the top in every sphere of life, the empowerment efforts can only succeed. We are serious and keen on providing opportunities to the gem of flowers who are destined to blush unseen and waste their sweetness in remote hilly terrains. Illiteracy has been the black hole of tattered rural economy as education is the key to empowerment. Keeping its promise of providing education to the poorest and deprived section of children, particularly minority and SC/ST, SHARE opened an English medium school named, Fluorescence Academy at the onset of this financial year in Hazaribag district. It was also a moment of proud privilege for us to work with Jharkhand Education Project, East Singhbhum in its effort to educate those who failed to attend regular schooling due to adverse socio-economic condition. Five units of Night School have been opened at remote villages with the sole objective of ameliorating the conditions of literacy and to raise awareness level of the people, which have shown bright signs of upward trend. Another milestone has been our recognition and faith shown by the Jharkhand State Social Welfare Board, Ranchi while giving us onus of responsibility to implement Condensed Course for the dropouts SC/ST women in the age group of 15-35.This prestigious project is supported by Central Social Welfare Board, New Delhi for two financial years-2006-08. This programme also provides opportunity for the women to develop their skill in different IGA. The Board also provided Grant-in-Aid to work for the children of working mothers under Rajeev Gandhi National Crèche Scheme. SHARE has been equally concerned by the growing environmental pollution. It was our actions in this field that helped us get support from Ministry of Forest & Environment, Govt. of India through RRA, Gram Vikas Kendra, Jamshedpur to work on Solid Waste Management. In the present context of rapid changes at the global and national levels in the development sector, it is high time for SHARE to expedite its focus on providing services towards effective management of natural resources, as urgent and indispensable! Women have been at the centre of all the programmes and activities undertaken by the organization as it is committed to their all-round development in every sphere of life. STRATEGY: We believe in interventions at regular intervals in our programme area and persevere for quite some time. We assimilate with the community people and push project parameters over a stretch of time. This bears dramatic results in the long run. Though we take up one or two issues when we enter programme area, ultimately we end up taking the holistic perspective. By our sincere efforts we impress upon our subjects in such a manner that they become party to this developmental process voluntarily and readily. Starting from the promotion of grassroots institutions like SHGs, Village Development Committees, Gram Sabhas, we proceed by enabling the whole village to act in unity and participate actively in the Nation Building Endeavour. Integrated Development is the keyword! In a nutshell, our strategy has been to improve socio-economic backwardness by exploring opportunities at village level through optimum utilization of available natural, institutional and human resources in the best interest of the rural populace. VISION: SHARE wishes to establish a sustainable society, where healthy, educated, egalitarian and just social order sustains in all spheres of peoples life. MISSION: Ø Equal opportunity to all people for their Health and education development Ø Remove all developmental constraints from the society, such as Gender difference, Caste, religion, race and class conflict, etc. Ø Equal participation of men & women in all development activities.
